An illustrious legacy, a contemporary vision that looks to the future

Studio Galgano is a point of reference for excellence in the Italian and international legal scene. Founded over fifty years ago by Prof. Francesco Galgano, the firm has successfully combined academic culture with professional practice, assisting companies, institutions, and individuals in and out of court.

Excellence and integrity

Studio Galgano’s philosophy is based on a multidisciplinary and integrated approach. From managing the most complex disputes to providing day-to-day advice, it offers tailor-made solutions tailored to the specific needs of its clients.

Francesco Galgano

Studio Galgano traces its origins to its founder, Professor Francesco Galgano, who for more than fifty years represented the ideal meeting point between academia and the legal profession.

Professor Francesco Galgano (1933–2012) is universally regarded as one of the most authoritative contemporary Italian jurists. A leading authority in the fields of civil and commercial law, he played a decisive role in the development of global legal culture, as evidenced by the worldwide translation of his works.

After graduating in Law from the University of Bologna, where he studied under Professor Walter Bigiavi, he immediately entered the Judiciary. After a few years, he left to pursue an academic career, becoming Professor of Commercial Law at the University of Trieste and, from 1966, at the University of Bologna, where he also taught Private Law, Comparative Private Law and Civil Law. In 2009, the Alma Mater Studiorum appointed him Professor Emeritus. For more than forty years, he educated generations of legal professionals who studied from his textbooks on Commercial Law, Private Law and Comparative Private Law.

A lawyer of recognized distinction, he advised leading industrial groups, financial institutions and Italian and international entrepreneurs. The professional activity of Professor Galgano and his Firm has been intertwined with some of the most significant chapters of Italy’s economic history.

He served on numerous ministerial commissions entrusted with the reform of corporate law and the legal framework governing business enterprises, ultimately holding senior positions within the Privatization Committee and serving as Chairman of the Commission on Financial Transparency.

Professor Galgano was the author of hundreds of publications and of works that have become classics of legal literature, including the Trattato di Diritto Civile. He founded and edited the journals Contratto e Impresa and Contratto e Impresa/Europa, and directed major legal publishing and commentaries.
